Portraits & Colors : Workshop with Syrian kids in Shatila, Lebanon

English

As soon as we entered the center’s playground, kids started gathering and laughing around us. We knew right away we were going to spend an awesome two-day workshop in Shatila, Lebanon.

“I liked working in teams and trying all types of cameras.” -Hadi

In December 2015, Antoine Entabi and Youssef Shoufan, with the support of Voleur de couleurs, gave a photography workshop in Shatila’s camp in Lebanon where many Syrian children now live.

In partnership with Basmeh & Zeitooneh and with some funds gathered by donations made through the Art For Syria Project, we were able not only to take many great pictures, but also to reflect on different subjects.

“Digital photography is what I  liked most because it lets you take as many pictures as you want.” -Hazem

Antoine Entabi shows the selection of material used in the workshop, from film camera to a portable digital printer.

Eleven kids, divided in three groups, had to capture three types of pictures:

  1. Instant picture focusing on their favorite colour.
  2. Instant black & white portrait of a friend.
  3. Digital phone camera on a free subject printed on a portable printer.
"I especially liked the polaroid, it gives you the pictures right away without modifying them." -Abed
